USPS® files for next rate increase.
Since Gary's Sunrise presentation, the Postal Service has, in fact, filed for its next rate increase. The new rate case, which may take as long as 10 months to implement, features an average 8.5 percent increase including some rate cuts in some categories.
Under the proposed rates, the cost of a first-class letter would rise three cents to 42 cents for the first ounce while additional ounces would fall from 24 to 20 cents. In addition, some rates would be calculated based on shape as well as weight.
If approved by the Postal Rate Commission, the changes would take effect in the spring of 2007.
The complete proposed rate charts are available from C.TRAC by calling 440.572.1000 or at: dstepanic@ctrac.com.
